TOWER

 Bild Landesmuseum Mannheim 3 Kopie.jpeg

TOWER, 1988
Draft for the State Museum of Technology in Mannheim
Tower and seven masks for the external facade

The twelve-metre-high Tower holding a sphere surrounded by metal struts symbolizes the evolution of Man's view of the world. The pyramid-shaped top shows the strivings of the human mind to attain higher things. The sphere rests upon a solid base representing the present state of knowledge. In the movement sequence, the pyramid opens and the sphere ascends to float above the base. At their highest point, the metal struts form a cube which elevates the base and protectively surround the sphere: idea has become matter.

Height: 12 m - Width: 2 m - Length: 2 m
